Labels for food safety





Japanese design agency TO-GENKYO has designed an innovative hourglass shaped label for packaged meat which uses a special ink that changes color as ammonia is released inside the package. As the meat ages, it releases increasing amounts of the substance, obscuring the barcode at the bottom. Customers can quickly see if the meat is going bad – and when the barcode becomes completely covered, it can’t be scanned.

Stephane Perche






I am now trying to blog as much as possible. Hopefully will remember!
This is my latest discovery. Stephane Perche is a French designer. I'm not really sue about much else as I am struggling to find her online- my french is limited! These posters are beautiful. The colour use, the strong type and combination's of lines are lovely. Inspiration for the next project maybe?

I went to see Invictus tonight. I was unsure whether I was going to enjoy it or not but now I am so glad I have seen it. It was a truly inspiring film with fantastic real life based elements. Morgan Freeman adopts the character of Mandela with admirable conviction, as does Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar. Being a rugby lover myself, it was great to see how Mandela used the sport to bring the whole of South Africa together as a country and to help abolish apartheid. 5 star.

Record sale



Well i am definitely in the wrong line of career here! This Alberto Giacometti sculpture sold for a record £65 million in auction at Sotheby's in London today. A L'Homme Qui Marche (Walking Man 1) made from bronze broke the record for the most expensive piece of artwork ever auctioned. WOW

Winter Olympics






The Winter Olympics are fast approaching, i can't wait personally for the ski slaloms. The advert is getting me very excited! With a touch of Michael Buble, who can not like it!

D&AD Brief




Another competition brief chosen from the D&AD briefs. I chose The Body Shop's brief which was to up with a campaign to 'reinstate them on the market place as the ethical beauty supplier on the high street'. Originally i designed posters which encouraged people to look beyond skin deep and at their natural beauty, but after tutorials I found that posters are not a campaign! a valuable lesson to learn. so I came up with 'the truth campaign'. The Body Shop pride themselves on being honest and telling the truth about their products and their ingredients so the truth campaign comprises of installations in town centres with the 'true' ingredients on the side of the bottle and tag line; 'Our products won't make you beautiful, or even a nicer person.' The second part of the campaign will be a 'truth booth' also in town, encouraging people to tell their embarrassing truth. The 'truths' will then be anonymously uploaded to the internet for people to read and to realise that, actually, our worries are insignificant!

Puffin Book Design



The Penguin brief also included a cover for the children's range, Puffin. The book was 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll, an old classic. The story had to be made clear in our minds as the Disney version we all know also incorporates aspects from 'Through the looking glass' as well. This design was designed for children, so i have used simple illustration and type to portray a childish and innocent feel. I have left the characters white to tie in with other children's books that incorporate activities, in this case colouring in.

Penguin Book Design



We have been recently working on the competition module in uni, answering briefs from a number of different establishments. This one is from Penguin, they wanted a new book cover for the novel 'Perfume, The story of a murderer' by Patrick Suskind. Research led me to create this outcome, including floral elements and the passionate embrace of a man and woman. The double meaning means that the reader has a double take and the text on the front is in a white spot varnish to make it look as though the cover has no content and the illustration speak for itself.
